custom split screens

I bought the Ultimate S plugin for Vegas 5 and it's great. What I've been wondering is if there's a plugin for split screens? If not what are some
of the technique's used to create split screens.

I've seen commercials were there are three screens with the black space separating the screens being slanted ( / / / ). Also, three screens were the same video footage is divided between each screen.

Masks and multiple tracks are the way to go.

For precise control, draw masks for each of the video "channels" in a photo editor or other drawing program. Create a white shape where you want the video to appear in the frame and black elsewhere. If you want three screens you'll need (most likely) six tracks. The even numbered tracks will contain the video clips and the odd numbered tracks above them will contain the masks. Composite 1 & 2 as Mask (Multiply) and also 3 & 4, and 5 & 6. If you want something else to show up in the borders & background besides black place it on track 7 and it will show "through the cracks".

Actually, using Bezier masks, you can do it with only THREE tracks:

Track 1: Mask the left third
Track 2: Mask the left TWO-thirds
Track 3: leave alone

This will give you track 1 on the left, track 2 in the middle, and track 3 on the right.
