customize keyboard and "tab" question

Hi all,

I just upgraded to v9 from v6. So far, it's great, except that I have a keyboard customization that I really want, and v9 won't let me create it. Any thoughts here?

I want to use the "TAB" key to move right to the next edit point in trackview. v6 let me create that easily, v9 has any press of "TAB" moving the cursor to the next field. Tab and Ctrl-Tab to move left are Pro Tools standards I live with... I need this to work... any ideas? I will check with SCS but expect little response.

Otherwise, I really like v9. It "feels" faster.

I ran into the same issue as I had years of Tab and Ctl-Tab for navigating my events. I thought too that I couldn't live without it. However, I modified my keyboard so that Q was move left to next event edge and W is move right to next event edge. I've gotten to use to it and now prefer it since I don't have to activate two buttons to move left on the timeline.

Just a suggestion and hope you get it too where you are happy.

Seems to me that since Windows reserves Tab, Shift-Tab, Alt-Tab, and Ctrl-Tab that it'd be hard to get Vegas to change that. I'm surprised V6 allowed it.

I have successfully mapped Ctl-Tab keyboard command in Vegas8 but it was the Tab key that for some reason I couldn't get modified. It could be operator error and maybe there is a way but again I am now comfortable with Q and W.

Hi Erik,

Thanks for a great suggestion. No, you were not experiencing operator error... SCS simply dropped a small detail they may have thought unimportant.

Rob, you're right about Windows global use of those keystrokes, so maybe v6 was a happy accident... I just want that accident back, because I know they can do it. :)

I've tried SCS support, and they simply send me a link on how to create keyboard shortcuts, so, apparently they don't actually have time to read my question.

The bummer for me is that I spend more time in Pro Tools than Vegas and that combination is deeply ingrained.

Thanks for your responses. I'll let you all know if SCS actually addresses the question.
