Cut a section from the middle of a take.

What is the best way to remove a section from the middle of an otherwise fine clip?
a) Open the clip in the trimmer, create two new clips for the first part and the end part.
b) Add the clip to the timeline, then trim its end point back. Then add the same clip to the timeline again, trimming back its start point.

Thanks for your help.

Easiest for me is to split the clip. Put the clip on the timeline. Move the timeline cursor to the edit point. Press "s" on the keyboard to split the clip. Move the timeline cursor to the end of the edit. Press "s" again. Now highlight the edit. Press "delete". If you are already set for "ripple" edit, you are done. Otherwise close up the gap. If the edit works, great .. if not you can easily length or shorten either end of the edit point.

Superb xberk - thanks so much.

Can anyone recommend a good Vegas book ? I think I need to spend some quality time reading how to do these things...

You actually can save some keystrokes/mouse actions. All you need to do is do a single split, then just adjust the out point of the first section and the in point of the second. If you do the split at one of the edit points, then you only need adjust the other clip. Ripple edit will close up the gap. As usual, there are many ways of achieving a particular result with Vegas. Use whatever method fits your way of doing things.

I see what you mean bayside - thanks for the alternative.
Ripple is a great thing, but is there a way to preserve the markers with their position in the file? They seem to be locked to the time ruler, and hence I find I have to jigg them all along a bit if I've done some edits.

I believe there is a choice under ripple as to what it applies to.

Another choice: Drag a loop region which defines the section to be cut out and hit the DEL key. Use ripple edit if needed.
