drop it into the time line and cut out what you want as part of your overall project ..

or use a mpeg editor so that the cutting will not re-encode the file ..

It is easy to edit in Vegas, but Vegas will re-render the file whan you save it, resulting in loss of quality and consumption of time.

You can do cuts-only editing of Mpeg2 files in TMPGEnc. For doing multiple cuts, without re-rendering, try mpeg-vcr. You can download it at:

Womble

I sure hope that SOFO adds a simple mpeg cut and join facility in a future release of either Vegas or DVD-A.

hi again, you probaly misunderstand me. of course i can edit the mpeg2 file, and spllit in many more segments. but i also want to edit one these little segments, deleting something from the button as from the top and just place the middle of the segment into another video file... it's does not need to be an mpeg2 file, it can be any other format as well.

What I'd do (and yes, might seem as extra work)...

Open the mpg2 in dvd2avi, set your options, save the project. Open the project in vfapi and convert. open the newly created (fake) avi file in Vegas. Vegas will now have a source on the timeline you can play with at will, render out just the parts you want and so on. You'll have to handle the audio separately, but can save it as a wav file when saving the proj. in dvd2avi, then import this into vegas with the fake avi, checking stuff like sync of course.
