Cut/Copy/Paste FX?

RichMacDonald wrote on 12/15/2001, 12:04 PM
One thing that would be very useful is to copy an effect and paste it (with the same settings) somewhere else. For example, I have some FX on a track that I need to transfer to the events on that track, so I can move those events to another track and keep the same FX settings. Am I missing something or is this not possible? TIA.

Yes you can. A feature called "FX chains" makes it really easy to do a group of filters. Or you can save your own presets for each filter.
To save a group of filters, click on the "Plug-In Chain" icon in the top right area of your track filter window. Select "Save As". Type in a name for the chain. Now open a clip filter window. Go to "Filter Packages" and you'll see your FX chain.
Keyframe adjustments will also save with the filter chain. If the clip time is shorter than duraction of keyframes in the filter, it will stack the extras on top of each other at the end of the clip keyframe window. Double clicking steps down through them.

Thanks guys. My mistake was believing that saving
the FX package only included the chain but did not
include the settings. Somewhere or another I had
done this before and discovered that. Incorrectly
as I have now confirmed. Thanks again. (But too
late to save me from doing it manually while
waiting for the answer :-)

Craig,
Keyframes do not save with custom FX. Custom FX Saves are good to keep all the settings of a one FX or a chain to reuse.

Gary, I didn't say keyframes save with custom FX. I said they save with FX chains. Also, custom FX settings saved have nothing to do with FX chains.
I answered his specific question. And yes I know all about using takes as a "clip inherit" feature.
