...do I get the background transparent rather than black?

In the sample of teh effect it shows the background white and grey but when I apply the effect I get the background solid black.

The effect I'm looking for is to have a video of someone reading and have that transposed on another image ...

I figured it out:

1) Put the video of the people reading on the Video Overlay track
2) Apply the cookie cutter effect on the video
3) Put the background image (or video) on the main video track.

If anyone is interested how it looks like, I put a rough concept video on the web with stil images instead of the video that I yet have to record:
