Cuts aren't placed at timeline when switching cameras in Multicam

Miles-Thatch wrote on 1/12/2023, 10:43 PM

When switching camera angles using the multicam mode during timeline playback, sometimes the cut isn't placed where the timeline bar is at the moment but where the the timeline bar was placed before playback. This doesn't happen all the time. What am I doing wrong?

Could you post a quick video showing the issue? My first thought was that it could be relataed to the quantize function, but I'm not sure that it fits your description.

So I discovered the culprit.

You know how on a webpage, if you middle mouse click, you turn your mouse into a scroll tool? Well in Vegas If during playback, I use the middle mouse click within the timeline to adjust the view, it seems to break the location of where multicam cuts get placed and they get cut at the initial timeline start instead if where the timeline is now.

Ok so apparently this also breaks if you just plain use SHIFT + scroll wheel to scroll the timeline. So any type of scrolling in the timeline plain breaks the location where the mutlicam makes it's cuts. Great to know.

I tested this with just placing markers on the timeline. Started playback, added a few markers that added at the cursor position. Clicked the middle wheel on the mouse, and then all markers attempted to add at the original cursor location. You can click on a new location and then they will add there instead but always at that clicked location until you stop and restart playback.

Are you talking about markers you place with the M key? Because that's not quite what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the cuts that get sliced on the clip when you're switching camera views in multicam mode and the playback is on.

@Miles-Thatch, yes I'm talking about the "M" key and I know that's different than what you're referring to. However, the same thing is happening with BOTH. I'll bet that if the solution is found for one, it will fix both. In other words, the issue you are reporting is wider spread than just switching cameras so I was confirming your issue did exist by using another method.

Aah roger.

I'm on Vegas 18, what are the chances I'm gonna benefit from that bug fix?

Rhetorical question...

I'd say about 0%. My test was done on VEGAS Pro 20...

This also drives me nuts during multi-cam editing as I can't seem to break the habit of grabbing the timeline and moving it left or right (mostly left to see what's coming). I have found the best solution is to hit the \ key to re-center the timeline to the current cursor position. After that, the edit will occur at the current cursor position...at least until I fiddle with the timeline again :-0
