Cutting

Newby here.
I'm trying to cut a section out of my video, but whenever I try to select a portion of the video it selects the whole video track. I tried the selection edit tool, the normal edit tool, and the envelope edit tool. Same result for all, the whole video track is selected. I cannot select just the portion I want to cut.
I'm wondering if perhaps I have a setting wrong somewhere.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Gerry

Lots of ways to do this ...

- Drag the mouse pointer along the timeline underneath the tracks (not on a track itself). This highlights the area in blue. Press Delete. If you have Ripple edits enabled then the gap closes up automatically.

- Find the start of the section you want to remove and press i (for in). Find the end and press o (for out). This highlights the section.

- Find the start and press s (for split). Find the end and press s again. You now have three pieces on the timeline, before the section, the section itself, and the part after the section. Click on the section to select it.

- Find the start or the end and press s. Drag that end of the section toward the other end of it. This trims it.

Probably a dozen other ways too, but this should get you started.

Thank you for your help.
i also found the slice command, which allows me to slice at two points and delete the video section contained therein.
