Cutting Captured Video

I am using Video Factory V2.0c. I was just wondering if there is an easy way to cut the clips I have just captured off my DV Camcorder. I have used version 1 of Video Factory and with that you could edit a video clip easily by marking the start and and points in the clip and then cutting the remainder. I have a clip which is too long and I want to cut it down to the desired size before I insert it in the timeline.

Thanks for any help

Could you explain the problem a bit more, please - I'm not sure what your concern is. There is a trimmer, but the usual approach is to trim events on the timeline.

I don't think you can work on events/media clips without using the trimmer before inserting them onto the timeline in VF. It's about the only thing that's not so user-friendly with VF.

I usually insert the 'line' at the insertion point on timeline and doubleclick the clip in media pool to insert. If you then want to delete a portion the quickest way is to place the 'line' at the start of the bit you want out (the frame will show in viewer)left-click at that point and hold and drag and let go at the end. This portion will be highlighted in yellow. Then just hit 'delete'. You can also use this method to butt up events with space in between.

Just stick the clip on the timeline and trim it -- it's a piece of cake. Once you get use to it, you'll be doing it in your sleep.

It does take some getting used to.

My strategy now is to pull a clip into the overlay track, trim it, go get the next one, etc.

Then, I assemble my video by picking a clip at a time from the overlay track and dropping them into the regular track.
