Position scrubber at the beginning of were you want the cut to begin, type the letter s (split), position the scrubber at the end point, type s again. Click on the event (between the split point) hit delete.

If you have Auto-Ripple toggled on, the trailing events will move forward to fill the gap.

Can you explain what you mean by: "Position scrubber at the beginning"? I found the scrubber bar but there's nothing that tells how to use it. Thanks.

Right. Position the mouse pointer where you want on the timeline and click. The cursor ("scrubber") will be placed there. Click the plus sign at the lower right corner of the VMS window to zoom in. Press the left or right arrow buttons to move the cursor a frame at a time. (if you're not zoomed in, press the alt key with the arrow keys to move a frame at a time).
