Awesome video I love what you did with shattering and photographer taking photo and flashed. Awesome. Congratulations.

Great job.

This is probably a naive question, but how do you get away with using commercial music?
TomG wrote on 4/29/2004, 6:33 PM
Why can't I view this video? I have the most current version of MP9. When I click on the "get MP plug-in" all I get is a small window and it looks like I'm going to download MP.

Anybody else have this problem?

Hey Widetrack, I kinda wondered about that too.

I get an error too. Wrong version of Java installed. Then I get locked into a never ending cycle of popup error messages which can only be ended with ctrl-alt-del.
Zulqar-Cheema wrote on 4/30/2004, 2:16 AM

"but how do you get away with using commercial music? "
in the UK we can purchase an MCPS & PPL Licence to allow limited use on a video.

I Have never seen a Professional Wedding Video before SO I was very Curious to See this..
Very GOOD It was almost like you werent there at all... Very unobtrusive.... Liked what you did with some of the Pics... "Colour wise".. Also some very "ALMOST" Comic Moments.. You have a good eye for Camera Angles.. And seemed to get in at all the right Moments.... So much to like about this.. The speeded up footage.. The Kiss at the end..To name but a few..

Just as a Footnote Braughing is the home to the greatest tasting Sausages in the world... BRAUGHING Sausages ! YUMMY

zcheema,
I can't see this video either. Took a look at the page source. Don't you need to specify the actual video (wmv) file somewhere?

All I get is the old style movie player showing up but the video never starts.

Cheers,
Tom

EDITED: Never mind. I found that my WMP 9 was hosed. All fixed now.
Great video. Congrats.

very nice job ..... i'm thinking how much time this would have took on the A**D system -- oh wait .... i can't even do some of those effects without paying more money or using another app ..

As you know the picture is only part of a wedding video so, any comments on the audio, thats were a lot of time went with the levels, EQ and panning, the on-line video is in stereo so check it out if you missed it.

Very fine work! Outstanding videography and editing. I did pay attention to the sound - it was excellent!

How did you mic the couple for the vows? It was very clear.

While I've decided not to do weddings (too old to deal with hyper-stressed brides and their mothers) I occasionally fill in as a second cameraman for a friend who does wedding videos. I'm going to point him to your video for inspiration.

In the interest of honest feedback, I found the opening slideshow transitions and movement to be a little distracting. I almost cancelled the show before seeing the motion video work. (This coming from a guy who is several levels below your capability)

I only wish there were a central point for people in the US to get licensing for use of copyrighted songs. Are the permissions you get only good for England? Just this morning I had to turn down a job where the client insisted on using her CDs for accompanyment.

Ralph, thanks for the honest feedback always welcome to make yourself just that little bit better.

The groom had a radio Mic on him and the other was the MKE300 Mic for the vicar pickup. use the sound process in V$ i managed to even things out.

The slide show a tricky one, some like some don't, I have noticed, with respect the older (or mature) they are (i am 45) they less they like fast happening stuff on the screen. I have holiday video, when play to mature people were lost with it, but when played to a younger audience much enjoyed. So I guess know your viewer/ audience

The permissions are only good for UK, i am afraid.

Once again thanks for your kind comments.

Nice video. Most of the parts I really liked. There were just a few sections that I thought were a bit overdone. The shooting was excellent. How did you get the smooth pan around the couple when they were kissing? That was really nice. Also, as someone else pointed out, you have a gift for camera angles. There were some very different but well stitched together shots that gave you a good sense of what was going on all around. I like the way you used a mix of back & white and color.

The part I thought was overdone was the forward/reverse thing on the opening images (i'm 47), and especially as the guests were coming out of the church. I thought it made them look like penguins. In the video of my wedding, the editor use some special effects while the people were dancing at the reception and while it may have been amusing at the time, it now obscures the image of some relatives who have since passed on (one of which is my father dancing the tarantella with my wife and her mother.). Today, I would just like to watch them dancing regular and remember them that way.

A wedding video becomes an extremely powerful remembrance of family and friends after a number of years have past. You may have captured the only video of uncle Harry before he died but now he’s uncle Harry doing a penguin impression. ;-) I would have done that to the bride and groom because there are plenty of other pictures of them but not to the guests. Just my personal thing. Also my wife scolded me once when I used a fracture/glass breaking effect on the bride and grooms picture in a wedding video I did for a friend. She said it implied that they were “breaking apart”. I must admit, it was the last image in your video and it didn’t give me a “happily ever after” feel. But maybe my wife has altered my thinking. (naw, that could never happen) ;-)

I didn’t mean to bring you down with this. I watched the whole thing and really enjoyed it a lot. It just took me back to an unfortunate incident with my wedding video so I though I’d relate that to you. If the bride and groom like it, that’s all that matters.

Johnny, the entered video was 1/2 an hour and was specially made for the competition, (the web one is a cut down version) the original couple had a full 90 minutes of video, with no penguins or cracking glass. i did um and R about it and the meaning of the the glass breaking, but as it was for the competition, i went for artistic and not practical. i wanted to do it my way and not worry about the client.
The reason for the penguins is they do actually remind me of that when they do come out of a church and they take so long, so to speeded it up and to add a bit of humour, thats what I did. i did actually do it to a customers video this year and got very favorable results, including showing it at exhibitions.

we need to experiment an push the boundaries and break with tradition.

thanks for your comments Johnny, much appreciated.

> it was for the competition

OK, makes perfect sense now. I king of thought it was intentional going for the penguin look with the tux and tails and it was very funny. (kind of a Benny Hill wedding) ;-) I’m just over sensitized to it because of my situation.

You did a great job but you still didn’t tell me how you paned around that couple so smoothly. Was it just the stabilization on your camera? What camera did you use?

Zulqar-Cheema wrote on 4/30/2004, 4:04 PM
I do beg your pardon Johnny, the paned shot round the couple or known as the Twirly shot by me. Is actually just me walking round the couple and then adding strobe (reduce frame rate 12) at post and that seems to give it a smooth look.

you are the 3rd person to mention how smooth that looks as I have always thought it was up and down as a yo-yo.

Once again thanks.
