dang.... render issues on Windows 7- i7 build

Have been putting my new i7 machine through it's paces. Very fast but I'm getting the occasional red frame and had a weird render issue - it refused to render a jpg on the timeline. Just a small picture of a piece of paper, it also refused to render a rays effect. I ultimately had to "render to new track" the sections to cineform.

Dang..... windows 7, ASUS p6T deluxe V2, Intel i7, intel chipset, 64 bit, 12 gigs of ram....

How is this not working? Sorry, just a bit frustrated. Overall I'm real happy with my Vegas experience but ....... how is Vegas choking on this simple stuff?

It's not your i7 -- there's a known problem with Jpgs and PNGs in 9.0c 64 bit. This is likely your problem. I've gone back to 9.0b 64 bit because of it.

JPG problem 9.0c 64 bit

Sony is aware of the problem. 9.0c 32 bit seems to be ok. A forum search will reveal much more about this issue. You are not alone.

Welcome to the Club! I too have built my i7 machine just for Vegas 9. I've resorted to regressing back to 9b which resolved some of my Red Frame errors when working w/ 720p footage but now I'm getting major Red Frames and hanging when working w/ 1080P 60fps footage w/out any jpg or png images!
- I can't import more than 10-12 clips before the time line goes crazy.
- Can't recover from the Red Frames after deleting the last events.
- Closing/opening the project doesn't clear up the red frames either.
- Must start a new project and keep the clips down to less than 10 per project and minimal transitions and effects. Even this is a crap shoot.
- Can't import multiple copies of the same event w/ out Red Frames showing up.

I have an open case w/ Sony tech so am still awaiting resolution to this issue.

Vegas is so much easier and powerful to work in but I've resorted to working in Corel Video Studio X3 for now since it has a free fully fuctional 30 day download and works with my footage. When they (Sony) fix this issue I'll be so happy to be back in the Vegas editing again!

Thanks for the support guys. I'm aware of the issues and was expecting some kind of glitches with Vegas and my new build. I guess I'm just coming to terms with the fact that we are never going to get to the point where this stuff just works...

I've been f'ing with software and computers for a frickin' decade now and nothing has changed. Sure they are faster and basic tasks are easier, building them is simpler - a lot of the stuff works better but there is always some gotcha, some stupid error, some ghost in the machine that keeps me up till 3am so I can get the job done.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful. I really appreciate all the power that comes with all these amazing tools but I'm starting to come to the depressing realization that they are never going to work really well. Sorry, just venting at this point....
