Dark box showing up in video

I have a clip that is a tad dark. I went to the video fx tab, selected brighter, and when I did this the clip lightens up, but there is a section of the video that remands the old darkness. a little box. If I move my cursor in the preview window, I can change the size of this box. Why is it there an how can I get rid of it. I don't want it on the video. Thanks

It's not on the video; it's only in the preview window. You have "split screen view" turned on, which lets you see before & after of various effects. There is a button just about the preview that looks like a cirlce inside a rectangle, half dark and half light. Click on this to turn it off.
