dark capture

I've been struggling with this problem for a while now... when I capture video from my DV, both the preview and eventual DVD look darker than the raw video.

I'm running an AMD XP 1700 (1.47GB)
512MB 2100 DDR
64MB nVidia based card
capture with firewire
sony DCR-TRV17
VV 4.0d
capture to a 160GB WD 7200RPM, 8MB HD

I've read some of the other posts but did not get glean any info from them.

thanks,
kibo

My latest shots were dark too. But I'm almost sure it's the LCD-screen on the camera that is somewhat brighter than the actual image recorded to tape and my lap-top screen that varies with different viewing angles. The capture process from tape to hard drive only moves digital information from one place to another. No recompression is made. The only way to be sure is to view the video on the timeline on an external monitor which I don't have in my current location. Good light and the zebra-pattern in the camera will from now on always be used.

You can brighten your picture up with the "Levels" FX. It works great!

Craig:

Levels are one of the standard FX, it has some presets and you can customize the settings as well.
