Darla 24 freezes

KeithZ wrote on 9/21/1999, 11:38 AM
I have been able to use Vegas Pro at work with the 2408
with few problems, but the Darla 24 on my home computer
freezes when I use fast fwd, rewind, go to top, or go to
end, and also when I resize the looped area WHEN PLAYING.
The darla 24 just locks up and when I look at the echo
console, it shows frozen activity in the playback volume
meters. I can't do anything to reset the Darla 24 except
reboot. Any ideas out there? I am hoping to replace
Cubase 24 3.7 because I like the ease of the indiv eq and
comp section for mixing in Vegas Pro. Cubase seems so
difficult mix on.

What version of the drivers are you using?

There is a bug in the 5.00 drivers from the Event and Echo sites.
There is an update that fixes these problems. I believe it is 5.01.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am using 5.0 and I really hope you
are right, but I went to both echo and events driver download pages
and the latest versions posted are 5.0. Are you sure about the 5.1?
If so, where do I find it? Thanks, Keith

I coudn't find the 5.0.1 driver update either. I have mail into the
Echo guys. In the mean time, the only soluition available is to
revert back to the 4.xxx drivers.

I too had the 5.0 driver problems with my Layla. Echo has
acknowledged the problem and said they are working on a 5.0.1 driver
but I don't believe it is yet available. I reinstalled 4.xxx drivers
(first 4.5, then 4.3, then 4.2, then back to 4.5) and had a variety
of buggy intermittent problems with each of these drivers. The final
straw was blowing a tweeter due to Layla autotrim maxing out the
input of one channel (with Vegas open). These problems do not occur
with CWPA8, CoolEditPro or SoundForge. I have shelved Vegas
for the time being... too bad I do like the interface but, I think I
should've waited for CWPA9 - now released.

Thanks Peter and Dale. Darn. Darn. Darn. I really love the
interface compared to VST24, which I use to transfer 24 tracks from
my DA88's thru a 2408 (the Darla 24 is for tracking overdubs and/or
mixing at home. I was really hoping to shelf the VST24 which I know
is very powerful, but I just never find it pleasant to do serious
editing or mixing in. I can zip around Vegas and really was
considering buying it this week. Hey Peter, the Darla lock up
problem and driver situation just burned up about 5 days of my trial
time and now it's expired. I tried to reactivate, but obviously, the
site turned me down. Any chance of another trial? I could reload
the earlier drivers. Thanks, Keith

Hi Keith,

Can you send me your email address and your Activation Code that you
got for the trial Vegas? We are posting the 1.0a update tonight and
i'd like to reset your trial period.

Please email me this information rather than posting it to this forum.

thanks,
caleb
