Data format corruption

I am unable to read in a project that I just finished saving using DVD Architect Version 3.0b build 93. This has happened several times. Each time, no error message was shown during the save of the project. After the save completes, I exit DVD Architect. Then, I restart DVD Architect and when the project is being read in, I get a panel with the following message:

"Data format corruption found during read. Click OK to acknowledge errors and warnings and continue. Click Cancel to abort project load."

The title area of the panel contains "Load:Messages". The OK button is greyed out and can not be selected. When I click the Cancel button, another panel is shown with the following message:

"An error occurred during this command (Id: 4102). The reason for the error could not be determined."

The project is a family tree with about 90 people represented as submenus. Each person's submenu has about 8 or so submenus for each relationship type (spouse, children, parent, sibling, etc.). It seems that it may have something to do with the number of submenus, but I'm not sure exactly.

I emailed Sony support several days ago, but haven't gotten any response yet except that they received my email.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks -

Not sure if this is what's causing you to get that error message, but you're only allowed 99 menus per VTS (video title set). (I once read that the limit is 250 menus per VTS, but either way you're way over it.) Also, those menus can add up to no more than 1GB of space. Those are limitiations of DVDs in general, not just of DVD Architect. The limitation of DVD Architect is that you can only have one VTS per project.

Are menus the only / best way to go for your project? Could the "relationships" content for each one at least be combined into a video divided into chapters? That would bring you down to about 90 menus and 90 videos, just barely making the DVD specs. (Actually, through some cunning but tedious editing of chapter and in / out points, you could put all of the "relationships" content into one video and "section it off" for each of the main people.

Or maybe picture compilations or music compilations would fit the bill? I don't know your exact needs for the project, but I'm pretty sure there's a less complicated way than 700+ menus. Ouch, that just sounds painful.

Now, if you want to wait a couple days and have some dough in your pocket, Sony will soon be releasing DVD Architect 4, which will have at least one feature that may simplify / improve your project -- buttons over video. The scripting featurs also may help, and they've also got some new slideshow fetures added.

Or, who knows, maybe they added the ability to have more than one VTS.

Nah...

Rob -

thanks for your thoughts. I don't think I have a problem with being over the 99 menus limit. I am able to make a dvd after I've added the relationship submenus for some of the people, before I get the "Data format corruption" error, and the number is well above 99 at that point. I ran into the 99 menus limit on another project, though, and oddly enough never got any errors until I tried making the dvd.

I appreciate your suggestions. Thanks again.
