Date/time capture in Vegas 4

Hi
I would like to have date/time shown in my video after capture, as it is with analog camcorders. I found that it is available in Sonic Video Capture in captured clips' properties (Clip Details tab, Date/Time Stamp field). But it disappears in the Vegas Media Pool. Is there any means (plugin, media FX etc.) of showing date/time in the captured video?

Do you mean the "Date/Time Stamp" Column? I've got it. Make sure you scroll to the very right hand side of the Media Pool. If you want it over to the left you can drag the column to the left .. ok?

ok .. . AND . . . Confirm you actually have it there as an option:

1 - Rest your mouse pointer over the are of Media Pool Columns,

2 - Right click

3 - Select "View" from Pop up Menu

4 - COnfirm "Date/Time Stamp" has been selected

. .that's IT!

Oh, yeah! Thanks! I totally forgot about detailed view. Though it is strange that all of these data are not included in properties of the media.
Anyway, it is better now, but still it would be so much nicer to have a Media FX allowing to show Date/Time in selected clips. Is there add-ons like this?

No, there isn't. I have been asking for it for several years, as have many other people, some of whom want it to timestamp legal depositions and other very important reasons (i.e. for them it isn't just a "nice to have" feature). It isn't in Vegas 5 either.

One of the neat features of DV, is that when you play it back, you can press the button on the remote to temporarily bring up the exact date and time that clip was taken. Unlike the old analog camcorders that you mentioned, this date and time doesn't reside on the visible portion of the video, so you have the option of turning it on and off when you want.

Many people have asked for the ability to put this date and time information on the screen, using an fX similar to the timecode fX. The easy thing to do would be to include a simple option in the existing timecode fX to display timecode, date, time, or some combination.

Given that everyone publishes their work on DVD, what would be even better -- if Sony is listening -- would be to also make this timecode information available as a subtitle file. The way this could work is similar to how chapter marks are now sent to DVDA, i.e., via the mpg.sfl files. Vegas, during the MPEG render, could also create a SUB file that would contain time and date info for the project. This could then be imported into DVDA on a subtitle line. The person viewing the DVD could then simply enable the appropriate subtitle track whenever they wanted to view the date and time. This would preserve the advantage of DV tape of not having to permanently "mar" the video by having the date and time permanently in the video stream (which is what the date/time fX would do).

Hey, guys, this is already doable. I don't have time at the moment to look up the reference, but do a search on this topic. It's a third-party utility that's $10 or something like that. Was discussed about 6 months ago.
