Dazzel movie creator II and VV3

I'm trying to help my best friend set-up his new video editing system. Brian is an emmy winning educational film maker who was striken with ALS (Lou Gerig's disease) at 46 last feb. He is now in a wheel chair with limited movement. Here's my questions. He bought a Dell 8200 which came with the Moive Creator II capture card and MGI editing software. I bought him a copy of VV3 for him. here's my problem, when I try to capture in vegas it say the Dazzel card is not availible or being used by another application. It catures fine with the MGI software, but I'd really like him to be able to utilize the superior Vegas codec. In the meantime he has been capturing to MGI and opening the files in Vegas . He said some of the files won't open in vegas and display an error code something along the lines of "file corupted" Time is short for him and we're working on documentary about his condition and the transitions it's taking us all through.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. By the way this forum is wonderful and is really helping me begin to understand the Video world. I come from the audio side of things.

Cheers John

One thing i've seen mentioned by the SF techs in this forum many times is that the MGI drivers and codecs really just aren't compatible with SF's software. I've seen them reccomend that you completely uninstall all MGI software and drivers, then reinstall Vegas. Once you've got Vegas running you shouldn't have any need for the MGI stuff anyway.
