Dazzle and Pinnacle

VV Users,

I wanted to share a bit of news I learned today. Maybe it will be new to you. Pinnacle has purchased Dazzle. I having been a Dazzle user in the past for their I/O devices caught wind of this.

I have become a not so big fan of either company, but thought it worth while to share. Dazzle will be having any customer support available until Sept. 30th and then it all goes over to Pinnacle.

Take care,

Chad

Well, that product just went to sh*t.

Like most of their products aren't already sh*t. The only good one is Instant Copy from Pinnacle for it's um DVD features *wink, wink nudge, nuge say no more*

Careful guys. Forgive the cold water but there is such a thing as product disparagement as a right of legal action (yes, I'm a lawyer BOOO HISSSS). Of course there's the fact that sh*t is actually a form of organic excrement, and naturally no Pinnacle product is literally made of that. It's the same reason that if you call someone a Son of a B**** it's not defamatory because dogs don't really give birth to humans. Yes, lawyer humor is a strange thing.

Sorry-got drawn into this thread because I have both Studio 8 and Dazzle DVD Complete (virtually stopped using both when I got Vegas+DVD, although the free upgrade to Dazzle 2.5 was excellent) and can't help but wonder what will happen to future "fixes" of Dazzle code, if any.

Have never been "Dazzled" by any of these products because of the USB capture (Dazzle) and flaky operation (Pinnacle Studio 8). Alway been a Pinnacle 7and DC10 Plus (then) and Canopus- Vegas guy (now).

I believe you read that wrong! Pinnacle actually purchased Dazzle a while ago. What they did today was officially KILL Dazzle. They sent out an email to all Dazzle customers explaining that support for Dazzle products ends September 30th 2003 and here are your options to upgrade to Pinnacle products. End of game. Buy a Pinnacle product or good luck with your non-supported Dazzle product.

Here is the actual text:

Support for your existing Dazzle product will be available until September 30, 2003. Between now and then, you will have the opportunity to upgrade to a Pinnacle-based solution .

Sounds to me like: You will be assimilated ;-)

I agree. Bad news, bears. If you own a Dazzle product and it breaks or needs service after 9/30/03, just throw it in the trash and browse the competitors. I didn't say "browse the Pinnacle site" because I followed a link, as a future former owner of DVD Complete, and was amazed to find an offer to "upgrade" for extra $$ to the Expression software. That's sad, since Expression doesn't appear to have the feature set or relative stability of DVD Complete.

And if you own a Hollywood DV-Bridge, as I unfortunately do, get ready to shell out another $250-$300 for the Canopus ADVC100. I don't have the "Porsche designed" box that Pinnacle offers to replace the Bridge (again for much extra $$), but the user reviews are awful, with so many alleged bugs you'll need a can of Raid.

It's the nightmare we feared when Sony bought Vegas/Acid/SForge. Fortunately the Sony acquisition wasn't hostile.
