Dazzle Hollywood Bridge - Dropped Frames?!

This is my THIRD try at getting the right hardware setup. I started with a Dazzle 80, which dropped a lot of frames due to the USB interface. I tried an ATI All-in-Wonder card - poor aspect ratio on the video, no audio, and then it locked up my system.

This afternoon I purchased a Dazzle Hollywood Bridge with a Firewire interface. I have tried a couple of captures off the VCR (actually, the TV running through the VCR), using a composite cable. The results are STILL showing dropped frames. However, the video looks pretty good - both when I review the clip in VideoFactory and when I render it in a .wmv or .avi file.

Is dropped frames a horrible thing? Or is dropping something that can be lived with as long as it doesn't get too severe? I am REALLY tired of installing and uninstalling hardware, and am hoping this will be sufficient.

Your thoughts?

It's a subjective thing. If the video looks ok, it's ok. You really need to drop many frames, or a few in a row, for it to be noticeable. If i drop less than 5 a minute i don't worry about it. If i drop 5 a second, something is seriously wrong. However, i use the Sony external converter (sadly now discontinued) and have performed 270 minute captures without dropping a single frame.
