Appreciate any insights into this. I'm new to Hybrid Log Gamma and I'm just trying to get my mind around how to work with it. I'm having enough issues just trying to expose it properly, but I think I've got that part figured out. Now bringing into Vegas and I'm just a little confused about the best way to handle it. I understood that HLG is supposed to be good to go and can be simply viewed as is on any HDR monitor and doesn't necessarily require any grading.
What is confusing me right now is if you were to grade it, what would be the options or proper workflow. The way I'm seeing it right now is you have 4 ways to go:
1. Bring it into Vegas and do the HDR workflow, putting it in HLG mode and HLG REC 2020 color space.
2. Do the above, and add a REC 2020 to REC 709 LUT.
3. Just bring it into Vegas, not in HDR mode, and apply a REC 2020 to REC 709 LUT and go from there.
4. Just bring it into Vegas and grade as you would any other footage, no LUT and no HDR space.
Am I missing something here? Is there a best way or wrong way to deal with HLG?
I'm attaching samples from what I'm saying, and so far, applying the LUT alone looks pretty good. And also, the HLG in HDR with the REC 709 LUT seems okay too. But that's my eyes.
Any thoughts appreciated.
