Dealing with .tga files

snicholshms wrote on 1/10/2003, 8:51 PM
I'm trying to find a way to view .tgas in their folder like I can other file types like .png or jpeg. Gotta Windows PC and I can't click on the "thumbnail" view in a folder to see a .tga.

I've opened a folder full of .tgas in Vegas Explorer and double clicked them onto the timeline but that takes forever to view them all. I saved the veg file so I can view all the. tgas on the timeline in the future. Even renderd out an MPEG-1 to watch to get ideas/samples.

Is their a way to convert a folder full of .tgas into .pngs or jpegs all at once? I don't look forward to opening each .tga in Ulead PhotoImpact and saving it as a .png!

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

If you just want thumbnails, you can select TGAs in Vegas explorer and right-click them into the media pool without adding them to the timeline...

http://www.irfanview.com

Last I knew, it's free for personal/non-profit use, <$50USD for commercial. Of course, read the EULA to be sure. It's quite the powerful/quick-to-load image tool. Has batch convert options and a myriad of other features.

Have been using this Irfanview32 Graphics Viewer (www.irfanview.com) for a couple of days now. THIS IS GREAT! It's got plug-ins to use filters from Photoshop and several other programs. What a convenient, time-saver for working with any graphic format.
Thanks for the tip, Mikee.

Thank God for tga. files! The titler in Vegas isn't quite up to the level of the TitleDeko that came with my Premiere. So with tga. files, I just make the title in Deko, save as a tga. file, then use it in Vegas, with alpha channel applied. Works perfect. Now I can use the brushed metal look that I like with Deko in Vegas.

Don't forget to resize to 655x480 or reset the aspect, or you may get squashed titles...
