I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in playing back HDV files in realtime in Vegas 6C using DECKLINK HD's SDI out into the "HD LINK" to output HD though DVI onto an LCD monitor?
You can't play back HDV files using the Decklink, it only allows for the Sony YUV codec, but if you have a fast RAID, yes...it plays back jitter free. Keep in mind that uncompressed sources are actually easier, since there is no decode/encode going on. But the hard drive system is critical, you must have a fast and well-appointed RAID.
Additionally, you'll not use the DVI output, you'll use either component or HD/SDI output from the BMD products, depending on which card you buy.
So if I convert my Mpg2 files to Sony YUV for Editing I will be able to watch in realtime out of the BM Card?
Right now I'm using SATA Raid "O" for my video drive, It plays back my cineform HD AVI files almost in realtime though my firewire output, However I'm hoping to get more reliable playback with the BM Card.
The performance will all depend on your RAID. Download the speed test from the BMD site. If your RAID is smaller than 6 drives, it's unlikely you'll get the performance you're looking for.
Yes, you'll convert to Sony YUV (boy is it pretty).
This is one of the reasons that the GearShift tool was developed.
So if I'm coming from a Sony Z1 would I capture via the component output into the DeckLink card and then playback to an HD monitor via the same card using HDLink? At what point would I convert to Sony YUV? Am I capturing to a BMD intermediary or direct to Vegas?
