Default audio fade

I am creating a video where the beginning starts with no audio clip at all. After a short time sound starts with the first audio clip. I am trying to fade in this clip from silence to normal using a fade in. I am using the proper fade in at the top left hand corner of the clip but it insists on using a crossfade as the default. A simple audio fade in is what I require. What is the best way to achieve this?

Crossfades are applied to overlapping events.
Unilateral fades are applied to non-overlapping events.
Ungroup your audio, and drag an event edge until they snap and no longer overlap.

In Version 13 Sony changed that procedure. You have to click on the cross fade button at the bottom first then you can do the fade the old way.
