Can anyone please tell me how to set a menu button as the default highlight button. In other words, when the menu is displayed, one of the buttons is highlighted.
Your question is somewhat ambiguous. Under normal circumstances, one button SHOULD be highlighted by default. If not, something's wrong.
If you mean that you would like to specify which button becomes highlighted when the menu appears, there are a couple of ways that I know of.
1) In the Project Properties box, (left side of screen) click the media file name that you want to be highlighted and drag it so that it's first in the list on the menu page.
2) If your project includes 'Introductory Media' that plays before the menu appears, you can doubleclick the media's title in the Project Properties box, then adjust the End Action in the Menu Properties box on the right. Select your menu as the Destination, and then select Destination Button and choose the title of the media whose button you want to be highlighted.
There may be other ways to do it, but these work for me...
The way the default settings in DVD Architect are, the button did not show up as highlighted.. After changing some of the colours, I see now how the highlight works. tell me, if there is more than one video clip in the project, eg three, and three buttons on the menu, once the first clip (not the introductory media) has finishedplaying and you return to the menu, the first button is still highlighted. is there a way of making the highlight move over to the next button?
Don't understand why the yours didn't show up initially, but we'll just let that go for now.
When you have multiple videos and a button to go with each, you can specify which button is highlighted at the end of each one by setting the End Actionin the Media Properties window. (right side of screen) As described in my first message, set the Destination to your menu and then select the video you want to be highlighted under Destination Button.
Another place where I typically fiddle with the highlight position is in the Remote Buttons area. I like to sequence things so that the next video in the menu is highlighted at the end of the previous clip, as you've described. However, if the user hits the menu button in the middle of the clip, I like to have it return to the menu with the current clip highlighted, rather than the next one in line. Just a personal preference...
Regarding the default highlight not showing up, the default colour for both the text and the highlight was yellow.
What I found was that the option to set the destination button was greyed out. Fiddling about, I saw that the destination option was set to "Most recent menu" and that if I clicked the drop down button, there it listed the title which was displayed on the menu ( I only have one menu) . When I selected it, I was then able to point it to the next button on the menu.
Hi...this is an area that I also have a question. My "hi-lited" button also has a yellow shadow. Is there a way to have the hi-lighted button just be "bolded" without a yellow shadow?

Not using the simple highlighting mechanism in DVD-A. It's not as easy as changing text attributes. That stated, it's possible that a custom highlight mask with careful color and opacity selection may approximate the effect you're looking for.
