Default sample rate for DV Audio

I'm certain since my last re-install of VV I haven't played with the PAL DV template. I just was looking at something else and realised I've been running all my projects with Audio Sample rate at 44.1 KHz.

Now unless I'm badly mistaken for DV that should be 48KHz. Have I inadvertently changed that or is that how it comes setup out of the box?

If the latter that would seem to be a bit of a trap.

Either way, it doesn't matter. If you render to PAL or NTSC DV, Vegas automatically adjusts for this. Vegas will scale the audio to whatever the project settings are, but for DV, it will default to 48K. Nothing will get out of sync.

Spot,
you are indeed correct, so if I capture DV and PTT DV it's always going to stay as 48KHz even though my poject properties say 44.1KHz. That kind of makes sense except then what does the project setting affect. I guess if I start recording to a new track from an analogue source via a sound card.

PS I wasn't worried about things getting out of sync, I've never had VV get A/V out of sync despite doing some nasty things that I was 95% certain would get things out of sync.
I was more worried about the audio being resampled, with my crappy sound card and speakers I'd never know but I've just started working on a project for cinema projection and I want to be 100% certain I don't miss anything. Before that freaks you out, I'm only adding trailers to someone elses work so its all on one tape. In the process I wanted to be certain that no audio quality would be lost. Having it re-sampled to / from 44.1 KHz shouldn't make a huge difference but worthwhile avoiding.

Properties such as sample rate are determined by the settings for the final render. It doesn't matter if it was different in the project settings when you worked on it. I wondered the same thing until a Sonic Foundry moderator cleared it up in a post last year.

I'm stil left wondering then just what does it affect?

Much the same thing applies to all the project settings I guess. I can drop both NTSC and PAL on the one timeline and have it all rendered out as either I know. I'm also pretty certain that all the project properties affect are what it's previewed as for the video side of things. So does this mean if I'd left the audio as 44.1 then during preview VV resamples the audio to play it out.

This shoudn't make any difference, I'm just curious to know.

farss, you are correct. Ideally you should set the project properties to match the final output so that your previews while you are editing will resemble the finished output. It's not required though. In this specific case, the audio is resampled from 48K to 44.1K only while previewing. When you render, the project properties are temporarily set to the rendering template. The audio will remain at 48K and will not be resampled to 44.1K and then back to 48K.
