defualt setting - delete video but not audio

In v.6 Studio. When I clicked on an imported clip - but only the audio or video - when I deleted it - ONLY the one I was on disappeared but the other stayed. Now with 7.0 full - unless I ungroup them they both get deleted.
I am sure this is a parameter to be set - but I can't find it.
