delay problem

I'm in the middle of my first 1 minute project. It's a front end for my church TV program. I'm using a lot of video clips accompanied by an audio track. I'm getting delay then sometimes my computer says, "low on virtual memory" I hit ok, but still my clips lag.
I have a Pentium 3 535 mhz 196 RAM. Do I need more RAM?
Someone please help....

Are you having this problem only while previewing from the timeline, or on finished renders too? If it's only while previewing, then your computer just isn't able to keep up with everything you've got in your project. Try rendering to a finished output file and see if that plays well.

I've got an 866MHz P3 and even it stalls if i have more than a couple of video tracks or any effect more complex than a crossfade.
