Delayed Links?

Is there a way to delay the highlights from showing up for links on a menu? For instance. I have the text fading in after about 20 seconds of footage. The background is too busy to use a mask that blends in, so what I would like have happen is to have the mask fade or come in at about 20 seconds into it. Can this be done? I am using DVDA3.

Yes, DVDA3 supports this ability. Check the manual for how to set it up. If I recall correctly, its in the section titled Delayed Menu Buttons or Setting a Menu Loop Point.

I read that, and if I understand it correctly, it is about importing from Photoshop and using layers. I do not use photoshop- I use Macromedia Fireworks. I have not taken the time to see if a file that has been converted will work for something like that in DVDA3.
I guess, I was wanting to know if the highlighted links that DVDA3 provide could be told to appear at a given time. As, all I need is an underline that preferably fades in after 20 seconds.

It's nothing to do with Photoshop layers at all:

Setting Looping Points for Menus

When a menu's end action is set to loop, you can specify a loop point to indicate the point where looped playback will begin. Menu buttons are not displayed until playback reaches the loop point.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the window isn't already visible, choose Properties from the View menu.

Double-click a menu in the Project Overview window (or navigate in the workspace) to open the menu you want to edit.

Set the menu's end action:

a. Click the End Action button at the top of the Properties window.
b. Select the Command box, click the button, and choose Loop from the drop-down list.

If the menu's end action is not set to Loop, you can still set a menu loop point to set the point at which buttons are displayed.

Set your menu's length:

a. Click the General button at the top of the Properties window.
b. Select the Menu length box, click the button, and choose a command from the drop-down list:

Auto calculate
The software will determine the menu length based on the background audio, video, and button animations

Specify
When is selected, you can type a number in the Length box or click the button to display a slider to change set to match the length of the background video if one exists.

If you type a value in the Length box that is longer than the background video, the background video will end, and any animated thumbnails will continue to play until the end of the menu. If you want the menu to loop smoothly when your menu duration is longer than the video, create a new background video that matches the desired menu length.

Perform either of the following procedures to set the point at which buttons will be displayed and looped playback will begin:

On the General section of the Menu Page Properties window, select the Loop Point box, click the button, and drag the slider (or type a value in the box) to set the loop point.

β€”orβ€”

Click in the Timeline window to position the cursor at the desired loop point, and then click the Set Loop Point button .

For example, if you set the Menu length to 00:00:30.000 and set the Loop point to 00:00:20.000, the first 20 seconds of the background media are played, and then menu buttons are displayed and playback repeats from 00:00:20.000 to 00:00:30.000.

The loop point is represented by a green marker in the Timeline window:

Thanks for the detailed answer. I will put it to use and see what I come up with.

Also, this may clarify some things, but what I have is the text as part of the video that is links. I made an empty link box to place over the text (so you would not know that it was there until the text showed up). I want the underline highlight to show up after 20 seconds into the menu.

I am going to try what you stated below, but will it affect the audio if I set the loop at 20 seconds but the entire menu is 60?
Thanks again,
I find myself using this forum more and more- mostly b/c of the knowledgable users!

Since the audio and video are multiplexed together into the final motion menu, yes, you need to take into account with your audio that you are going to loop 20 seconds in.

I usually create 2 different audio sections - an intro section and then a loop section.
