I've searched the message board but the only responses pulled up were from 2004 and dealt with DVDA2. I'm new to this software but I think I've found a way to do it using DVDA3.
I created a background video for my main menu page and added 'text only' buttons for "Play Movie" and "Scene Selections". Then I just set the Loop Point (the green bar in the timeline) where I wanted the buttons to appear. The menu won't loop unless it is set in the menu properties too. I set the loop point at a convenient place based on the audio background and enabled looping also.
Here's a quick example with a couple of qualifications. I captured the menu video using fraps at half speed and had to add the audio separately so the subpic start...and the end... doesn't match my dvd...but at least it'll give you an idea how it looks (pardon the low quality).
The movie is "Oceans Eleven" that I captured from tv and the background audio is of Sammy Davis Jr. singing the theme song.
