Delayed tracks

Hi,

Perhaps someone here can help with my problem. Here's my system setup: M-Audio Delta 1010, P2/400, 256M RAM, Win98SE and Vegas Audio 2.0a; 3 hard disks, 4.3gig OS/apps, 20G/5400rpm for audio files (the one I'm using) and 40G/7200rpm for audio files (new drive I have not used yet).

Here's the problem: SOMETIMES when I record a track or multiple tracks at a time, adding to a project which already has some tracks recorded, the new tracks show up with a severe delay. It's been in the range of 50 to 100 ms of delay, and it's not consistent. It has happened with projects where I was adding one track to 8 existing tracks, and it's happened with projects where I was adding 4 tracks at a time to over 16 existing tracks. However, I have added 4 tracks at a time to a project with over 20 tracks playing without any delay at all, so it does not seem to be related to track count (FWIW I'm using 24bit/44.1k tracks).

This is turning out to be a very serious problem, making this system nearly unusable. I'm pleased with the software otherwise, but this is killing me. Do I need a new motherboard and faster processor? That's no big deal, but if it does not fix it, then I hate to change it.

Thanks!

Definately try the 7200RPM drive as soon as possible. Also make sure
you have your drives set to use DMA.

There has been a lot of discussion about these issues before. Search
the forums for     latency     and you'll find lots of posts. Someone may
already have answered your questions.

Thanks for your reply. I have however been told that this problem is *not* latency, as the tracks are out of sync after they've been recorded... The new track is delayed with respect to the others. I understand latency affects the delay of playback of the entire mix, and should be more like 3ms and not 100ms... Am I missing something?

We are looking into this issue as others are reporting it with different hardware.

I also have this problem which by the way is the reason that after buying VV3 i am still using VV2 as the delay is not a problem there.

My hardware is HP Kayak 1 GHZ PC , Motu 24i interface withe the 324pci card .
I have several FAST hard drives SCSI as well as IDe and i have Ultra DMA enabled.

I am using several DAW´s and VV3 is the only one with the bug.

So is there any kind of work-around? Any solution to it? Expected date for a solution? Tips on making it go away, even if they are inconvenient?
