I'll show you mine, if you show me yours?

Remember, it is not the file size that matters, it's all about the quality.

:)

What?

Sony,

What FX did you use on the thumbnail second from the left to make it look like you've got more than one truck?

And what camera did you use for the shot of the entrance? The picture looks a bit fuzzy to me. Not very professional!

I'll bet you have room for a dual-monitor setup.

Zippy--I didn't know they allowed peoplle living in State Hospitals to photograph their imaginery studios--You see, you learn something new every day!

Let's see yours, Zip... or do you have a work environment?

cosmo wrote on 2/25/2004, 9:33 PM
don't have any stills on this laptop I'm using...but we just shot a video two days in my studio...but I don't think you can actually call it a studio. Just four walls, a couch, a/v equipment, guitar amps, a video monitor and surround setup. All crammed in an itty bitty room.

have a look if you like...very non-impressive studio. I try and do more with less. only about two hours spent on that video too so be kind!

What do you mean "just four walls"?

How about four very damn-fine-for-chromakey-green walls!
cosmo wrote on 2/25/2004, 10:03 PM
no sh*t! I just painted them last week..the room glows! Tomorrow I'll post the picture of my real chroma key screen(along with real stills)...it's like 12' by 24'...totally ridiculous! And I might add that the real screen wouldn't be working so well had it not been for the many great suggestions I got from the great SPOT! Drifting...
Spot|DSE wrote on 2/26/2004, 8:32 AM
Cosmo, you were doing great before! Pretty impressive stuff now. If you can grow this much in a short time, in a year you'll be scary.
cosmo wrote on 2/26/2004, 8:46 AM
Let me say THANKS Mr. Spot! Compliments are always great and much appreciated. I gotta say though...that video and song only represent about 5 total hours of work. I was lazy on that one. More coming!!!!

Really I'd like a studio like yours though...I'd love to have a control surface. I started in audio in like 1990 on tascam 1/2' tape and a HUGE tascam mixer(we remember those things right!). I grew up in a tactile world and that's the one thing I miss. That'll be the next big purchase for my "studio" - a good mackie control surface....
Spot|DSE wrote on 2/26/2004, 8:50 AM
If you look at the links to the 'old' studio, you'll see a 96 input Tascam M5000 with flying fader automation, driven by an Apple IISi computer, with 6 DA-88 decks. That system used to literally heat the entire studio space, we ran AC all year around. We didn't even heat the room. When we installed the Mackie Control systems in the 2 rooms, we were screwed, because now the rooms get cold in winter, so we had to have the heating ducts shifted into the AC duct. Expensive decision. (mine, and dumb)
Anyway, now that we're 100% dig on the record side, I'm much happier. With a good mic kit and Hardy pre's, you can do ANYTHING.
cosmo wrote on 2/26/2004, 8:53 AM
That's so funny. My "studio" is sub-ground floor in my house and this time of year I sometimes turn on my old Marshall valve amps for a little extra heat!!
RichMacDonald wrote on 2/26/2004, 3:09 PM
Where are you placing your center audio speaker, Spot? I didn't see it in the pics.

That is what has been killing me. I have two 21" monitors side by side at eye level. I tried placing the center speaker between the two monitors and axed that immediately because I hated the gap. Now I put the center speaker on top of the monitors. That forces me to move the two front side speakers up to the same level. I'm not a fan of "ceiling speakers", but I have no choice.

BTW, good thread, Zippy.

I just shot that a moment ago, the monitors sit low in the custom built console, so only about 1.5" of the woofer in the speaker is hidden. In this room, we're moving stuff back in from a Mackie class we just finished doing, so the center for the moment is the M-Audio SP5B. This room is usually all 626 Mackies. (slow shipment coming back from Videomaker!)

Spot- you are old.
Spot|DSE wrote on 2/26/2004, 4:35 PM
Thanks. I needed to hear that. It's not like my knees don't remind me every morning.
cosmo wrote on 2/26/2004, 4:59 PM
wow...I'd so loooove to have a real studio like that, in my next house for sure! I guess I'll go ahead and embarrass myself(!) by posting my actual pictures.
http://www.limitedwave.com/images/studio.html

The first three are of my "studio", the place I track and mix most music. The forth picture is my bigger system where I mix surround.

Pathetic, yes, I know! But I guess it gets the job done -) Should anyone like to hear what kind of music comes out of a mess like that, try this:

That's about the best (production quality) I've done I think. I'd love some production criticisms but that's another thread or forum I think!

ps - age is relative folks...and with age - WISDOM!!!!!!
Spot|DSE wrote on 2/26/2004, 5:17 PM
k, I gots the age, when does the wisdom start to creep in?
That's our A room, B room is occupied or I'd shoot that too. Our tracking room is a floating room with sand filled cinderblock. Quite nice, especially when you need to go somewhere to scream. No one can hear you.
