What was wanted has been defined in many, many threads on this forum. From what I can see not one of the features added was ever asked for and none of the ones that were specifically asked for have been delivered.
Remarkably enough on the audio side the users were asked what they wanted and they seem to have got most of it..
As you pointed out Jon, we have the same handful of people endlessly harping over the same handful of "features" THEY want and few others do. EDL is one such feature. If I were to ask for a show of hands I bet the results would be something like:
What's EDL? 60%
I have little or no use for EDL 39%
I want EDL 1%
The squeaky wheel gets the grease thinking. ;-)
I think its a credit to the Vegas development team that they do add many new features to each release without altering the interface or workflow in a major way. Vegas just keeps getting better and better.
But the question is flawed.
Firstly just what would you define as "Full EDL support", do you mean OMF files or what?
Secondly what is the scope of "needed"?
Thirdly without a few other features I don't quite see how much use it would have been anyway.
>>From what I can see not one of the features added was ever asked for
Do you have access to Sony's product suggestion database?
Things that I've personally seen asked for:
SUB CLIPS
PREMIERE STYLE SCRUBBING
FLASH IMPORT
3D COMPOSITING
EVENT REVERSE
TRANSISTION PROGRESS CONTROL
CUSTOM KEYS
...
I don't know much about EDL export but I do know it is scriptable. If there was as much demand as some people seem to think, why has a script not been written to satisfy it?
Fact is, Sony gave us everything we need to do that in version 4.
Okay, Ben, I'll take that as a not raising of the hand. ;o)
Actually I have written two "EDL" exporters for very specific needs. I make my living around a process that I invented using Vegas as a Media sequencer of sorts. Previous to Vegas 4, I used to use the Edit Details window to copy/paste the event data into Excel, where I had the code to export my "EDL". Since Vegas 4's scripting was introduced, I have been able to export the data I need (perfectly formatted) directly from Vegas.
So I guess my hand is up to say I use EDL export all the time. Thanks, Sony for adding scripting support to Vegas 4, and continuing to improve it with Vegas 5.
I didn't misread anything. You started a thread with a deliberately misleading title to supposedly gain attention for a pet peeve you have that others don't share. Some would call that LYING, certainly it isn't appropriate or a very effective way to build creditability. If your argument is so weak that you need to restort to deliberate deception to get noticed, what does that say about you? Such conduct is a real turn-off to me. I bet I'm not the only one. As the popularity of Vegas grows, so too the volume of traffic in this forum. Sharing your opinion is what this forum is for. Using deception to get attention is kid stuff.
Yes, there was a time that I thought EDL might help me. I have long since found other ways to deal with my needs. So, yes, I've been interested but, no, I don't need it.
However, the heading for your initial post is a troll and is not much appreciated. Don't do that. You should have your hand slapped.
Answer: No I have not had the need for EDL import or export in the last 12 months. However I will probably need it later this year to first do a rough cut on my laptop and then finish in a "pro" AVID studio (don't ask).
Parts of my wishlist to SONY, in no particular order, sent in from time to time using "product suggestions":
SWF import/export
ROTOSCOPING
PAINT
TITLING (with extrude, beveling, texture, "follow Bezier path" for text movement, vector tweaking, type on, random (definable) letters etc.)
MASKS (Bezier)
PARTICLE GENERATOR (rain, snow, fog, fire, fireworks, explosions etc.)
MOTION TRACKER/STABILIZER
MEDIA GENERATORS that are even more advanced.
SUBTITLING TOOL (In both Vegas and DVDA. Easy creation and synchronizing of subtitles in Vegas and a choice of either display them when printing to tape and/or exporting some file to DVDA for use on DVD. An option to automatically use the same text and sync points as meta data in web files would be nice.)
AAF and MXF support.
VIDEO CAPTURE, just a better one.
