Deleting Audio from a video event

Sorry if this is a very basic question but I'm very new to this!
Using Movie Studio 7 I want to delete the audio track from a video clip on the timeline. How can I stop the audio from video clips further along from moving to fill the gap and becoming out of sync with their video? Just can't figure this one out!

try right-clicking on the video event then selecting Group->Remove From.. this should 'uncouple' the video and audio to where you can delete one or the other..

There's an icon on the toolbar that says "Ignore Event Grouping". It looks like a little padlock. Tag the video clip, then tag the icon, then tag the audio (or video) to be deleted and delete it.

Then you can import a different audio strip, tag the icon, and lock the video and new audio together.

i think i misunderstood your original question.. are you referring to doing splits in the video then deleting the unwanted event that is created where the video is deleted but the audio stays?? if so then look into auto-ripple and Group delete.. AR also has an icon on the toolbar somewhere near the 'ignore event grouping' icon..

Many thanks guys for your help. It was indeed the auto ripple I needed to use. That stops the audio from other events 'moving up' the time line.

One more thing learnt, this software is so much better than anything else I have used but it sure is a steep learning curve!! I need to get some training, any recommendations?

i know what you mean by being somewhat more difficult to learn than say Pinnacle but just hang in there - you'll get there eventually. through the help this board has given, i've become what i'd consider an intermediate user in a relatively short period of time. i'm still learning of course but i now know how to do most things i need to in order to create a project. it's a very nice program - not to mention stable..

Yeah I intend to stick at it and totally agree about the software. Having given up on Pinnacle V 10. I tried Adobe which is OK and more stable that Pinnacle. But this Sony solution is in a different league in terms of functionality, stability and speed. It's just more 'grown up'!
