Deleting Multiple Fxs? Not!

Grazie wrote on 10/13/2003, 10:53 AM
Okay, take a clip. Add any old Fx - not fussy. Split this into 10 or so pieces. Each piece now has the Fx effect.

Save project.

Close project.

Reopen Project.

Now try and do a "mutiple" Fx remove or Delete by Right clicking on any split bit's Fx Plugin Icon. Yes the Menu comes up and yes you can delete that one. There is also the options to Delete All - don't work for me.

What Am I doing wrong?

Without actually looking or trying it or anything reasonable like that I'd say you need to apply/remove the effect to the clip from within the media pool.

I wouldn't expect to be able to remove all effects from all instances of a clip from within the timeline.

You are not using Tsunami's Remove All Effects tool :-)

Nice one Gazza! Good to see you respond with Retail assistance - hah! So what you are saying is that this does not happen in V4? - Well there is a Menu that says I can. Similar to "Delete all Markers", but for Fxs . . . and, are you also saying that I'm correct in at least thinking I can?

"I wouldn't expect to be able to remove all effects from all instances of a clip from within the timeline." . .well Rob, why is there a Menu that says I can? hummmm . . .?

Try it and tell me if you can - if you can't then there are 2 of us yeah?

Best regards,

Grazie

Grazie,

Are you misinterpreting the Delete All option to mean that it will delete the FX on all the split up clips (events)? It is there to delete all the FX on that one event.

Delete All only deletes all the "Event Effects" for that event. Remember that you could have a stack of several effects on an event. "Delete All" removes the stack.

If you rightclick elsewhere on the event you should see the "Media FX" option. That places the effect on the media itself and then all instances of that media on the timeline should show that effect.

You can also apply media effects directly from the media pool-but not from the trimmer for some reason.

Requires some forethought to use these right. If you've painted yourself into a corner then Tsunami can get rid of effects across many events.

event fx we're talking about? If so, modify one event so the effects are the way you like them (fx removed in your case). Copy this event. Select the other events. Paste event attributes.

Okay okay okay already! - Tuh! Yup, I thought it meant ALL . . silly me . . . so it means all within THAT event, even thought that event is aprt of a discreet AVI file . . okay , , I'll buy that . . hmmm...

. . . . . Gazza, I do have the link to Tsunami . . . .

. . I'll crawl back into my hole and lick my wounds . . . .

Thanks guys . . .mmm . . love those SmartyPants!

Really, thank you,

. . now where did I put my Dunces Hat???

But the "Paste Event Attributes" is additive. It doesn't delete any existing attributes, just adds all attributes from the copied clip.

Tsunami does this well as many other things and at $30 it's a bargain. I also really like Excalibur (the multi cam is amazing!). These plugins will save you so much time you'll feel like Vegas is on steroids.

Man! Everybody gets a dunce's cap. I keep mine right by my desk for emergencies. Always in handy reach.

Seriously though, you can do what you're imagining. just apply a mediaFX rather than the eventFX.

Cheers.
