Deleting only audio from event

I have some events that I want to delete only the audio portion. In the past, I have always simply highlighted the event , then hit the "U" key and then right click the audio and then hit "delete". But when I do that now, even though the video appears to be unselected, the video disappears as well as the audio.
I suppose this is a problem caused by running the VMS 9.0b on a 64 bit Vista machine. That seems to be the standard answer but I was hoping someone might have a real answer.. I searched the forum for the problem and found exactly the procedure that I am using was discussed earlier.
Any suggestions welcomed

I really doubt this has anything to do with 64-bit Vista. That is typically just a catch-all answer for when someone doesn't know the real problem.

I would break down your steps to a more granular level, for example:

1.) Click in a blank-space in the timeline, to insure you have nothing selected.
2.) Right-click the event you want to modify, and verify that "Ungroup" is a valid choice. (not greyed-out)
3.) Select Ungroup.
4.) Click in a blank-space again.
5.) Click just the audio, and try to drag it in the timeline: verify that it moves separately from the video.
6.) Hit delete on the audio.

If it still doesn't work after you've gone through the process with that level of detail/precision, then you might have a real problem.

I've had similar problems on my Vista-64 system, but only occasionally. Basically what happened to me was I could not get the Ungroup command to be active - it would stay grayed out regardless of what I did to select a clip. Ultimately what I did was delete the affected clip (both video & audio), re-insert it (back in the same place), and then try to Ungroup. This usually worked fine, although I do recall one time when I had to do it a couple of times before I could get Ungroup to become active.

This problem happened in maybe 5% of all cases where I wanted to remove the audio. Normally I just position the timeline cursor, hit S (Split), U (Ungroup) , select the audio to be deleted, and hit Delete. Very quick and nice.

My sense is the unavailability of Ungroup is a somewhat obscure/intermittent bug in Vegas. I don't think it has anything to do with the OS you are running under.

Thank you both for the reply. In a word, I think I have solved the issue. VISTA. My computer is dual booting with Windows 7(beta). So I installed VMS 9.0b there and then opened the project under Win7. Everything worked as advertised. I don't know if the problem is actually a bug in Vista or in my particular install, however, my upgrade to Win 7 is in the mail and none too soon. I had another problem with Vista that had to do with the preview window. As you may recall there is some information displayed below the window but in this Vista install, none of that information was there. It is present in the Win7 version however. I searched the preferences to see if I could find something that I should have or have not selected but never could come up with the answer.
So back to the project for now
