Auto-ripple is your biggest friend here. It can be set to automatically close up the gap on all tracks, or just the one track in which you made the edit.

Alternatively, if you want a more manual solution, you can right-mouse-button click on the next event after the gap and choose "select events to end", then drag that event over to the left. This will only affect that one track though.
