Are you talking applications, or programs running in the background (processes)?

applications, and maybe a couple of background program questions.

Status, use Windows "add/remove programs" found in the Control Panel for trashing most stuff. Some programs have their own uninstall feature, which can be better than using Windows. Just depends. Other programs are irritating in that they don't provide a an easy, clean uninstall. Perhaps you can sic a dedicated uninstaller program on these things.

Well, statas, if you want to have a clean system with all unnecessary programs thrown out, I strongly suggest building a new installation from scratch. There will be still some unnecessary features of the operating system, but at least no leftover pieces of software deleted long ago. I know it's lots of work, but you'll end up with a leaner, faster system.
