Dell Inspiron & Fangui. Best Settings?

Grazie wrote on 2/2/2003, 2:34 AM
Anyone using Fangui for Dell Inspies 8K+, I'm finding Fangui doesn't "hold" fan/s on. Sometimes the Inspiron takes over and closes down one of the fans. It is in this momentary "trip-up" that I again get the dreaded blue screen. Hmmmm....

Soooo... I'm looking for some "settings" to hold the fan/s ON while I'm PTTing. Everything else is holding together.

Good morning Grazie. I had the same problem after you pointed me and my I8200 at fangui. After selecting and applying manual control, I've taken to going to the "Options" page and . . .
1. deselecting "enable autostart" and,
2. enabling "maintain fan speeds" in the "direct fan control options" box.
That seems to be working for me.

Hey, I've joined you w/ VV3 as of this weekend. Worked through the tutorials and samples -- oh what fun! Congrats on your Ford. Grob

Grob - Welcome Aboard - "The Good Ship Vegas" - Oooh are you going to have fun here!

Thanks for the re-direct from VF. Must say thank you to IanG too.

So, your "1. & 2. " does it? Yes? You have done some PTTing lately - and it has worked? The fan/s hold the line? I'll give it a go.

In the "Enable Autostart", do you select anything for the First and Second Fan menus?

How about, "Auto Start only when on AC" ? I suppose this is when we are on mains supply.

What settings do you use in "Direct Fan Control" menu?

Do you do what IanG suggests and put a low temp in to "force" the tripping upwards, as it were.

Cheers - Oh yes, having wheels again sure is liberating!

"Enable Autostart:" no other changes or selections made other than un-selecting. This, as is most of my stuff, is based on an assumption. That auto-starting any-darn-thing was what I was out to eliminate. I agree that ". . . on AC" probably is a power consumption control that reduces fan use when on battery by limiting fan autostarts to line power only.

"Direct Fan Control:" Just prior to PTTing, I set both fans to low and let'em go. My temps seem to be holding at 110-120 (that's Fahren-cowboy-heit).

I like IanG's idea. If I have another knicker-twister fan episode, I'll give that a shot as well. Will also let you know if anything changes at my end fan/PTT-wise.

Well, it's snowing to beat the band and my daughter is standing in the doorway, sled, scowl, and snowsuit in hand. Time for another round of Beauty and the Beast.

See ya. Grob
