Is anyone using this computer for editing in Vegas Pro 19? Any problems or configuration recommendations? I'll be using it primarily for editing SD and HD materials, not 4K.
I don't really see the point in workstation CPUs or GPUs unless you need that for other software (CAD?)
Regular 11th or 12th generation Intel CPUs will be more than enough for Vegas and if you can add a GPU as prices come down you'll have a system to work with using 4K or HD for years.
Around 18 months ago when I was looking new computer options, I looked both Dell and HP Workstations, a clear advantage with them being that there are lots of cradles to install additional HDDs. However, by the time components were custom upgraded to get the unit to meet the then minimum recommended specifications for Vegas Pro (about the same as today for VP19), the cost of the workstation was sky high in comparison to a high end consumer desktop with similar specs. Of course, many of the components used in those workstations were/are top-of-the-range components aimed at the professional market.
And min specs is where the Dell Precision 5280 has a potential problem, particularly for 4K. The recommended min specs for Vegas Pro 19 are https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/specifications/#productMenu. For HD, a minimum of 4 cores is recommended, but the minimum recommended for 4K is 8 cores.
The link to Dell UK given above by Gid shows that the only processor offered for the 5280 (a Xeon) in the UK has only 6 cores. Dell Australia offers two Xeon processors but both are only 4 cores. So who knows what the processor choices might be in the OP's country. If it's the USA, there's a much, much wider choice of Xeon processors - the Xeon W-2245 would be needed at a minimum in order to get 8 cores if 4K in Vegas Pro is wanted.
BTW, I ended up getting a Dell Alienware desktop (see my signature). In addition to the 1TB M.2 NVME SSD, it does have three HDD cradles: one x 3.5" and two x 2.5".
