demo to full version question

Hi folks,

I ordered Video Vegas a few days ago, expecting it to show up here by now. Unfortunately, UPS has been less-than-hasty. It's due to arrive tomorrow (yay!), but I really need to start working on a project today (boo!).

[Gosh I wish they'd send the serial # by email prior to shipping the package... it would make life easier.]

Anyhow, I was wondering if I do work on the Demo version tonight, will the clips and edits still be usable when I plug in the serial number when the package arrives tomorrow evening? It's not ideal--I'm already going to have to show footage tomorrow morning (hoping I can get away with asking studemts to ignore the periodic Sonic Foundry demo blurbs)--but I'd at least like to know that the work I do will be usable when I fully enable the program.

Thanks!
John

The demo won't open or write MPEG filesdue to licensing issues. Aside from that (If I remember right)it is a fully functional program. So as long as your source file is not MPEG (shouldn't be anyway) you should be able to get started. Your VEG files will be fine.

Yay! Thanks.

I'm looking forward to working with Vegas. My prior editing experience has been with SpeedRazor and then FinalCutPro. From what I've seen of Vegas so far, I think I'm going to be very happy with it.

As an educator I also get a hefty discount on Avid DVXpress 3.5, and I was contemplating picking it up as well... any thoughts from folks on this? Obviously Vegas is everyone's editor of choice--and I'm committed to it myself--but I'm wondering if there might be some features in DVXpress that it would be handy to have access to.

Thanks again,
John

Avid is expensive. Instead I'd wait awhile, then look at Boris Red which will have a plug-in for Vegas soon. Now that will be a combination that should blow EVERYTHING else out of the water regardless of price. I'm of course a little biased.

It also won't SAVE your project. You can work with it but you can't save it.

To add to jetdv's comment, i don't believe you'll be able to enter the serial number until you quit the demo and restart it. Since you can't save the project, then you won't be able to make use of anything you do before entering the serial number, except for experience gained.

Yikes. Oh well. I'll just have to live with re-doing the editing, and that's ok. I'll chalk it up to "practice time with Vegas". :-) Thankfully, UPS says it should be here in the next couple of hours.

Cheers,
John
