Describe your workflow (for long projects)

How do you guys organize your tapes/clips and folders for long projects. What advice do you have for a newbie on how to organize and manage clips?

Currently, I'm working on a long project with 15 tapes and over 200 different clips per tape. It's a travel documentry. I have already uploaded my tapes onto drives, separated each tape into a folder named after the main city or location on that tape. Do you go through and delete the clips you know you won't use right away, or what flow (from an organizational standpoint) do you take to get started? Should I load these into the medai pool so I can more easily identify the contend of different scenes? What do you guys do? Your tips, stories appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mark,

I categorize them on the HD, but I also categorize them on a spreadsheet. For my video, "How to Finance a High-Tech Start-Up," I listed the question and main point from each person interviewed, for each take. I then sorted them by category to make it easier to group them together.

I built my media bins and sorted them similarly. Made the rough editing very easy.

Email me at ted (at) chanimal. com and I'll send it to you. Worked great to organize my material.
