Desktop to Laptop

I have a partially finished project on the desktop computer. I'm going on vacation for a week and Id like to put the project and files on my laptop so I can work on the project while I'm away.

I have installed VMS 4.0 on the laptop and have copied the files there including the project file with the .vf extension.

I have placed the files in folders on the laptop with the same name and in the same place in the hierarchy as on the desktop; the only difference is the drive letter, the desktop being E: and the laptop being C:

When I try to open the project on the timeline a prompt says it cannot find the file. I've tried to tell it where the file is located but even though the string is the usual blue color it won't let me change the location.

Does anyone know how to accomplish what I'm trying to do?

I have an external hard drive if that will help the problem.

Usually when it can't find a file it prompts you with a few choices. You should see the choices upon opening Movie Studio. One of them is something like specify a location for all missing files, or that choice may come up after you specify the location for a single file.

Are you not seeing those choices when you open the project file?

When you save your project, you have the option of including all of the files used in the project to be saved in the same directory as the .vf project file. You may want to try that and then copy all of the files in the project directory to your laptop.

Yes, gogiants, I do see those choices and one of them is something like, "Tell the location of the file". I clicked that option and the old location was shown with the usual blue background which usually lets you type in new information but in this case it won't let me change the location; in other words, I can't type over it.

desertman, I tried this with no result on the laptop so I decided to see if I could open the project on the desktop and had no success there either. I must be missing a step someplace.

I clicked Save as... put a check in Copy all media with project and clicked Save.

When I tried to open the project in VMS the name I had given to the project was a folder with no files showing.

I checked the folder in Windows Explorer and there were some files used on the first part of the timeline and one folder used on the end of the timeline but none of the files between; also there was no .vf file.

I'm still doing something wrong.
