Desperate help needed - print to tape?

aubergine00 wrote on 12/8/2004, 7:55 PM
I have a project due in a few hours - everytime i try to print my 9 minute video to tape, the connection messed up or something, because on the camera it records as the video, then the blue blank screen for a few seconds, then back to the video as if the blue screen never happened. the video rendered correctly because i can watch it on my windows media player... i've scanned my computer for spyware, cleaned the dust out of the cords, and raised the value (im not sure what it is) that they tell you to do in the help files for the program (in preferences) - nothing works!!!

btw i have video factory

please help, i'm absolutely desperate!

You don't say what format you rendered to - from memory it has to be DV AVI (or something similar), nothing else will work.

Further IanG, it also has to be coming down a firewire (IEEE1394) cable.

But, assuming that, has this ever happened before? Does your computer have enough power and RAM (because, if not, it may be a paging to virtual memory that's interrupting things). Show us your specs and operating system.

Finally, look really closely at your rendered file in Windows Media Player. Watch especially for brief blank spots between clips. Sometimes, if you don't have your clips properly butted up against each other on the timeline, you get little blanks.

Sorry. I meant to write "Further IanG's comments..." at the beginning of that last message. I wasn't addressing IanG, an old pro and long-time contributor to this forum.

Just to confirm your problem - The blue screen flashes appears on the tape when it is played back after printing to tape? I had a simular problem with my old Canon ZR. I would get the blue screen flashes as I printed to tape. The resultant tape would play back normal, no blue flashes.

Make sure that you turn OFF the "control video device from capture interface" option. (sorry, can't remember the actual switch name, and I don't have access to MS from where I am.)

Thank you all for posting - i'm still having trouble though.

in order:
I rendered to AVI so I don't think that's a problem
This has never happened before - i've completed two or three projects sucessfully... however it's been about a year since the last one
As for blank spots in the clips - the problem will happen in the middle of a single clip so there is no way I don't have it lined up properly
The blue screen flashes do appear on the tape after I play it back

What appears to be happeing, to me, is that the program is trying to record onto the camera, but the camera is stopping and starting (the little square that means stop will come up for a second, the screen will go blue, then it will go back to recording)

I thought it might have been my firewire cable, so I went out and got a new one - that didn't help at all. It took longer, but the blue screen flashes still happen.

After I post this, I'm going to go "clean" out my computer - try to free up some memory, though I don't THINK thats the problem... I guess I never know though.

As for dand's comment, I'm not sure where that is - could someone specify it for me?

Thank you once again for replying, I've gotten an extension on the project and I'm going to have to hand it in on Monday. I'm going to try to go though the list of things on the "Knowledge Base" page in order to ensure successful print to tape. Wish me luck...!
