Detection problem...gotta live with it?

Hello,
I've recently purchased a Lite-On CDRW that I'm using with
CD Architect. Obviously, CD Architect doesn't
automatically detect my new burner. I'm able to use it by
using the advanced setup routine that S.F. suggests.
However, every time I launch CD Architect, I have to re-
select the drive. It doesn't seem to remember that I
pointed to the new drive manually. Is this something that
I'm going to have to live with, or is there a way that can
keep my settings?

Thanks!

jp

I had the same issue for a while, and don't know whether it was selecting the drive, then immediately exiting CDA and then coming back in, but it stopped making me select the drive.

Tinker around with selecting the drive, exiting, or doing a burn and exiting. Some combination finally got it to keep my selection. Or it could have been upgrading to 4.0G CDA.

CD Architect does not support all drives, but you can still force recognition of an unsupported drive in some cases. Here is the link to all supported drives:

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/cdarchitect/drvsupp.asp

The most important thing to do is install the 4.0g update, which is available here:

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/step2.asp?DID=16

Once you have done this, you *might* be able to force recognition of your drive by doing the following:

Go to Options and click on "Select Drive". Now click the "Advanced" button on the lower right. Under the drive type menu, select either "SCSI MMC Compatible" or "ATAPI MMC Compatible" if the drive is not SCSI. Now pull down the SCSI Host menu, select option "0". Now pull down the SCSI CD-R menu and select your drive. If you do not see your drive, return to the SCSI Host menu and select option "1", and then pull down the SCSI CD-R menu and select your device.

Hopefully this will help.

I had the same problem until I updated my ASPI layer. As soon as I did that, literally, no more problems with keeping the selected drive. Assuming you have an Adaptec ASPI layer installed, download the update from their site. The file will not perform a fresh install by itself, it will only upgrade whatever Adaptec ASPI layer is installed on your system. If you don't have the Adaptec version installed, the updater will not work.

Hope this helps.

I have a little tidbit to mention about the fact CDA is not compatable with SF 5.0, that I haven't seen mentioned yet.
I spent HUNDREDS OF $$ on SF and CDA 4.0 a long while ago!
I upgraded to 5.0 (spent even more money) skipping the 4.5 route because it still had no 24bit support. It just wasn't much of an upgrade. BUT..
I STILL can't get the latest update to CD Architect (4.0g) with my new upgraded 5.0... or with my old 4.0 program... after all this investment!
Am I expected to now go and purchase a full SF 4.5 version just so I can get my final update of CDA??
Considering how much I've spent... compared to someone who got Sound Forge XP 4.5 ($45 or even bundled free in some other product), upgraded to 5.0 for $99 ... I should be sent an upgrade copy of SF 4.5 FREE OF CHARGE.. so I can get my now abandoned CDA to work to it's fullest. I still intend on using CDA extensively but soon I'll need to upgrade my aging CDRW. I'll need the latest update. C'mon Sonic Foundry .. what about making 4.5 an update instead of an upgrade for those of us who are both 4.0 FULL PRICE and 5.0 registered owners! Didn't we pay enough for this privilege? Maybe that's not the answer but it sure would be better than whats happening now.
