Determining quality of files before importing

I have VMS 10 HD. I don't want to use any HD in my current project so my Canon is set to XP+ which is a step below 720p I believe. My problem is I shot some clips and wasn't sure if my camera was set to XP+ or not. All the files in the folder I'm importing from (including the ones that I'm suspect of being full or partial HD/full being 1080 and partial being 720 - neither of which I wanted in this project - just saying this for clarity) have the same .mts file extensions. It's not like they say 720p or 1080 or anything. How can I determine the quality of the string of clips I shot? Would I do that via the data rate, the bit rate, and/or the total bitrate? One clip is a mere 38 seconds and is 55.0 MB in size if that helps anyone. Thanks so much in advance.

The freeware MediaInfo will give you all your files' properties and metadata.

You can do it via the bitrate: http://www.3ivx.com/support/calculator/index.html
XP+ is 12 mbps, while the 1080p versions are either 17 mbps or 24 mbps. You can then use a rename utility to help you rename files in batch mode, with -720-xp or whatever in their filename.
