device control not working

I use to be able to capture all the time with VV3.0 I'm not using a,b or c update. It always worked so why bother to update.

When I hit the capture icon, the capture utility opens up, but it says there is no device connected.
Well in AP 6.0 capture works, so its not the firewire.
In the main window of VV I go to preferences and under video device it has OHCI for device and in the details section it says device connected.

So why can't I get device control?

print to tape from the timeline works though.?????

Do you see video in the video capture preview monitor? Is device control enabled in the video capture tool?

no video in the window, and device control is enabled.
I notice in a search that a similar thing happened when they DEFRAGed(which I just did yesterday).
Maybe I'll have to re-install
