"Device Not Available?" Yes it is...

I just captured a bit of footage from a borrowed M10u last night. Then I popped in a new tape and all of a sudden I get, "Device Not Available." I turn the deck off and then back on and Windows regognizes it and asks what prog I want to use. So I know the computer is seeing it. I use Vegas' external prog and it says it's the wrong format (which I knew, but wanted to see if Vegas could see it at all). Back to HDV capture and Not Available. Went to Prefs and all I get is, "None," "IEE..." and "Black Magic..." Switched to the others and then back to 1394 just to have it re-recognize, but no luck.
It's most frustrating that I JUST digitized one tape ago. The footage is on my HDD!
Bugger.

Are you trying to capture more footage, or output to the camera?

After, I think, 9 reboots and and turning off and on the M10U, it magically came back. Very strange and irritating. I didn't do anything differently, bus some mystical combination of sparks must have hit just right. I digitize from this deck weekly at my place of employment. When I tried it here at home, it hassles me.
But it's working at this moment, so I'm not looking at it, in case it mis-interprets the look and shuts me out again.
Oh, it was on capture. I have yet to output in HDV. My delivery has so far always been SD.
Thanks for the bump and checking up on me.

I have a similar problem. When I first begin a capture, all is good. If, however, I stop capturing, I get the "please insert a tape" message. I have to turn the deck (JVC BR-DVD600D) off/on, then all is well again.
I still get my captures, but it isn't a pretty work flow.
The problem is consistant, happens every time. I bet your problem and the one I am seeing are related somehow. I am still using VV5.

I have a problem with Vegas recognizing my A1 when trying to capture HD. Sometimes it is there and sometimes it is not. I have never had this problem before with SD Cameras. I know that the computer is detecting it and sometimes it shows up in the internal vid capture program, but the majority of the time it does not. So....
I was reading some posts and found a link to HD Splitter. I have used that without incident. It is freeware and works with my HD camera to capture and split HD Footage. I have not had a "device not found" message pop up since I started using it. There was a couple of frames where "blockiness" occurred that did not occur when I Downsampled and recorded direct to VHS, but like I said, that was 2 frames, that I noticed anyway. If there is a fix to this using the internal vid cap prog please share it, but in the meantime, HD splitter is doing great.
