Dialog missing - not audio-just dialog?

Work flow:

Had four wide SD VOB files on HD that played normally
Renamed them to .m2t and put all four joined on the timeline
Timeline has just two tracks; one video and one audio
Timeline plays normally
Rendered to ntsc dvdarchitect wide
I rendered both with audio in mpeg file and as ac3 in two different attempts to get this right
Took into DVDA. project preview played normally both combined and with ac3
made DVD

..... and now here is this is the thing. The dialog is missing-not the audio- background music is there but no dialog?

Made a DVD with Nero recode as test and that was the same - audio but no dialog?

This is a not uncommon problem, the dialogue is recored dual mono but the two channels are out of phase so when you play it back on a mono system / TV, goodbye dialogue. You can check for this in Vegas using the mono mixdown button in the mixer pane.
One should always check every mix in mono.

One way this can easily happen is there's some cables out there that bring balanced audio out on TRS 3.5mm plugs. Plug that into any camera and presto you have audio in both channels but out of phase.
