Didn't Realize My Previous Monitors Were Crap

I bought two Sharp 17" LCD monitors about a year ago to replace my CRT's. I was somewhat dissapointed with the quality, but figured that it was just LCD's in general, which couldn't compete with a CRT, picture-wise.

But I just bought a Samsung 20" (203B) yesterday, and WOW, what a difference! So much brighter, sharper, with more color and contrast. To me, I don't see any difference with it and a CRT. I'm going to get another one tomorrow.

Are you also Previewing your footage out to a CRT? TV? Pro-monitor?

I've dealt with several folks who thought PBs were the greatest thing since sliced bread. One of my old bosses kept buying a new one every year. Not only did he pay more for used PBs in the Damark catalog than buying a brand new one elsewhere, but i'd usually have to spend another $500 to $1500 on new parts just to get the thing running. Oh well, he paid for it and paid my salary, so it was his choice.

Last one he got i convinced him to get an new HP direct from a reseller. We opened the box, put it on his desk, plugged it in, and 2 minutes later he was off and running without a hitch.

One of his old PBs is still under my old desk being used as a footrest.

I remember upgrading my PB to a 250MB harddrive (more space than could ever be used) and to some minimal RAM. I think the total bill was the better part of $400. Now you can get an entire computer for that.

Sad but then again AOL was $0.10 per minute then too. Anyone remember the $400 per month bills?
